The following is a brief
overview of the steps involved in our Enhanced Energy
process. All of these steps can be performed individually
for a client, but we recommend applying the entire process
to realize the full benefits.
Analysis and
Recommendations –
During this step, KMB
engineers meet with the key stakeholders in order to
discuss the needs of their system. We then analyze
historical energy use of the system, perform a detailed
survey of the electrical and mechanical systems within
the building, and conduct a facility energy analysis to
identify short term and long term energy savings
improvement opportunities. The final output of this
step is a comprehensive recommendations report that
details the proposed path forward.
Utility Procurement
Services – KMB develops a
client-specific energy supply strategy that includes
pricing options and risk management associated with
obtaining power and natural gas from independent
suppliers. The goal of this step is to develop a
program that will financially benefit our client through
a more effective means of energy procurement.
Engineering
Solutions – KMB uses its
extensive engineering experience to design modifications
to existing systems or add additional systems that will
reduce energy usage and costs to operate the facility.

Renewable Energy

When desire meets opportunity, the result is
action! With unprecedented incentives for
renewable energy now available – in the form of
federal grants, state rebates, tax credits, and
tradable renewable energy credits – what had
long been viewed as a “nice to have” for those
that could accept long ROI periods is now an
extremely viable option for many.
With experience in many solar projects, and
knowledge of wind and geothermal as well, KMB is
positioned to support our clients throughout the
process for renewable energy design and
installation.
Construction
Services – As licensed
contractors, KMB provides construction and project
management services in order to fully install and
commission our designed energy solutions. This provides
our clients with a comprehensive offering that reduces
their overall cost, shortens construction cycles, and
allows KMB to maintain a high level of quality
throughout the process.
Monitoring Services
– This key step in the overall
enhanced energy process is comprised of establishing
baseline energy consumption and then ongoing monitoring
services to validate the benefits of the engineered
solutions. This validation process provides our
clients with real-time data justifying their energy
decisions, identifying operational issues, and enabling
them to make educated decisions going forward.
Energy
Modeling Services – Determining a building’s
energy use is not always an intuitive process for
even the most seasoned engineers and industry
professionals. In our drive to reduce energy usage
for clients, KMB utilizes Energy Modeling (via
Carrier’s Hourly Analysis Program version 4.40,
whose results are accepted by the U.S. Green
Building Council for its LEED rating system) as a
vital design tool and has therefore integrated
Energy Modeling into our service offerings. Energy
Modeling is a powerful tool not only necessary to
earn LEED certification, but more importantly, to
assist the project team in accurately evaluating
energy reduction strategies that maximize both
energy and cost efficiency and minimize the impact
on the environment.
